“You might not know this but humor is lurking all around you. It can be stealthy however. Sometimes it bites us and we don’t even notice it. In this workshop, humor and travel writer Dave Fox will teach you how to turn non-funny moments in your daily life into hilarious stories, and how to make funny stories even funnier.”Dave Fox
Whether your goal is to publish humor columns or personal essays, perform stand-up or sketch comedy, or just make your friends giggle with Facebook posts that are way more entertaining than your Wordle scores and pics of your breakfast, you’ll discover how to spot the humor that surrounds you and learn how professional humorists crank out consistently funny material. Join Dave Fox at 3-3:50 pm, Pacific time, Saturday, April 2, 2022.

Fox’s Saturday session will focus on memoirs, journaling on the road, and how to draw humor from disaster. He should know. He has a wealth of practical travel knowledge to draw from. Fox survived for 16 years as a website editor and tour guide for PBS travel personality Rick Steves before moving to Southeast Asia in 2011. (Whether or not all of his tour members survived is uncertain.)
Fox has been based in Vietnam since 2015, where he works as a freelance travel writer, writing coach, and life coach for people with creative goals.Dave’s first book, Getting Lost: Mishaps of an Accidental Nomad is his collection of humor essays about things that have gone wrong in his overseas travels. Globejotting: How to Write Extraordinary Travel Journals teaches wandering humans how to craft more meaningful diaries of their journeys. (Many of the techniques he teaches also work great for people who are currently trapped on or just recently escaped from Planet Covid, who would like to recall the details of past trips.) He also teaches travel and humor writing workshops on Udemy.com, and contributes travel humor columns to En Voyage, the in-flight magazine for Taiwan-based EVA Air.
As long as the Vietnamese Internet Gods cooperate, Dave will be joining us and enjoying some virtual jet lag from his living room in Ho Chi Minh City (a.k.a. Saigon).
